t was based on a Stanton/OTR chassis which Ken Veal started building as a Sprintcar and I purchased it from Ken. The chassis is new but an exact copy of the original, (original sits in my backyard and looks a bit second hand after all the years of racing.)

Car Info /  Wheels

An interesting fact re the wheels is that when the car was built steel wheels with home-made steel centers were legal and “mag wheels” were not legal.
To-day it is the opposite, steel wheels with home-made centers are not legal and “mag wheels” are legal.

History

Car first raced in season 1983/84.
Photo “Old No 6” was taken 38 years ago after I had just finished building the first Limited Sportsman to run a Sprintcar/Spaceframe chassis.
The photo “New No 6” was taken in the same spot as the original after 38 years.
It was based on a Stanton/OTR chassis which Ken Veal started building as a Sprintcar and I purchased it from Ken.
Ken is the father of current Sprintcar Aust 1, Jamie Veal.
After making changes to suit the clockwise direction of racing for Limited Sportsman the above is the end result.
Move the clock forward 38 years and the photo “ New No 6 “ is the car today, which I have only recently finished restoring.
The chassis is new but an exact copy of the original,(original sits in my backyard and looks a bit second hand after all the years of racing.)
Some original parts are on the new chassis, “knock-on” front hubs,Jacobs ladder, bonnet and tail piece, rear rims with home made steel centres and the front torsion bar arms.
An interesting fact re the wheels is that when the car was built steel wheels with home-made steel centres were legal and “mag wheels” were not legal.
To-day it is the opposite, steel wheels with home-made centres are not legal and “mag wheels” are legal.
The “New No 6” has only had one run at Daylesford and I was very happy with how the car handled.
This was my first speedway drive in 32 years.
The 3rd photo shows the bonnet with the cars State Title placing's over a 22 year period.
Over the cars Speedway life it held many track lap records and won many Limited Sportsman feature races across Victoria and South Australia.
Four different drivers contributed to the State Title placing's, although the car probably had 8-10 different drivers and owners over it racing career.
Car last raced in season 2014/2015 and a copy of its VSC rego for this season is attached to the car.
